The façade of the almost one hundred years old brick factory is shining in clinker red. Today, it is the hallmark of the Knappenrode Energy Factory: Lausitz Mining Museum. Ten years ago, the last shift ended here. Turbines, driers, presses were stopped. What remained is now a remarkable piece of industrial history.

The factory buildings take you back to the Wilhelminian era. The collection is unique in Europe: a complete brick production line. Steam turbines and a power station show impressing German engineering craftsmanship.

The whole area can be explored above and under ground. More than a dozen exhibitions are waiting to be explored: the biggest exhibition of fire places in Europe, the mineral collection 'treasures of the world' or a collection of mining lamps, historic fire engines, diggers, steam engines and model railways. The 'Zechenhaus'-Inn will cater for your culinary needs.
